Five Fluency Skills

Have you ever tried being involved in a trend that your peers are highly influenced by but you’re not interested in it and by the time you’ve been influenced by these trends everyone else has joined the next trends and you have to start all over again, annoying right? Well it’s the same in the working and educational environment. A first year student might learn something that can be outdated by the time they get to their third year.

Trends come and go based on season and influence, but information is always updated everyday. It seems difficult to keep up with the new-age information which is why it’s important to learn abou the five fluency skills. These skills have been incorporated to encourage anyone, especially to think outside of the box to increase their creative understanding. The five fluency skills include (The IIE, 2021):

• Solution fluency 
• Creative fluency
• Collaboration fluency
• Media fluency 
• Information fluency

Solution Fluency

Solution fluency is the ability to think actively to solve problems in real-time by identifying the problem, creating a reasonable solution, delivering the solution and evaluating the process and outcome (Global Digital Citizen Foundation).

Creative Fluency 

The ability of creative thinking adds meaning and impact to any product and organisation in existence. Creative fluency helps you make it shine (Global Digital Citizen Foundation).

Collaboration fluency

One of the assets a student can have is being able to work well with a team. This builds partnerships in the real and digital field of work, teamwork has power and support with the essential element to success (Global Digital Citizen Foundation).

Media fluency

The way we communicate continuously evolves especially in the technological area. Media fluency is about interpreting and leveraging the message exepreinced on a day to day basis (Global Digital Citizen Foundation).

Information fluency

Information is everywhere and it is vital to or being. It takes special skills to navigate information on the internet everyday. Information fluency is the skill to search information and also being able to create useful knowledge that is helpful and effective (Global Digital Citizen Foundation).
